How America Got a Trump Highway, Trump Airport—and Now a Trump Dollar
From an Albanian boulevard to a gold-colored coin, the president’s name has migrated from private real estate into roads, government programs, military hardware and national symbols.
Donald Trump has spent decades putting his name on buildings. But since his rise to the presidency, the Trump brand and ego has taken a stranger journey: onto public roads, foreign territory, government institutions, military projects and, as of this week, American currency.
Not every example was personally ordered by Trump, and some remain legally disputed or merely proposed. But together they tell a remarkable story about the politics of presidential self-branding.
Here is the timeline.
2016 — Trump Drive, Montana
During the 2016 campaign, residents of Trump Drive in Kalispell, Montana, were already living with an unusually presidential address. Unlike many later examples, the street wasn’t created as a political tribute during Trump’s presidency. It was simply a road that happened to have been named for Donald Trump. Verdict: Real — but not a Trump presidency project.
2017 — Donald J. Trump Boulevard, Albania
The Trump name went international.
The Albanian city of Kamëz renamed one of its streets Donald J. Trump Boulevard. Mayor Xhelal Mziu, who had already declared Trump an honorary citizen, described the American president in glowing terms. SBS report

2019 — Trump Heights and Donald Trump Square, Israel
Israel produced two particularly memorable tributes.
In June, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled “Trump Heights” (Ramat Trump) in the Golan Heights, naming a planned community after Trump following his recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the territory. The ceremony featured a large sign, American and Israeli flags—and, initially, rather more symbolism than actual town. Reuters report on Trump Heights
A few weeks later, Petah Tikva inaugurated Donald Trump Square, complete with a fountain and an illuminated sculpture incorporating the Israeli and American flags. Jewish Telegraphic Agency report
Verdict: Trump Heights — real but initially more symbolic than developed. Trump Square — real.
2021 — President Donald J. Trump Highway, Oklahoma
Oklahoma went further.
A stretch of U.S. 287 from Boise City to the Texas border was officially designated the President Donald J. Trump Highway, effective November 1, 2021. The legislation did something politically useful first: it removed Oklahoma’s previous requirement that a person be dead for three years before a highway could be named for them. Oklahoma statute
In other words, lawmakers didn’t just name a highway for Trump. They changed the rules so they could name the highway for Trump.
Verdict: Real.
2021 — The Donald J. Trump Justice Complex, Nevada
Lyon County, Nevada, added perhaps the most unintentionally comic entry: the Donald J. Trump Justice Complex in Yerington. County commissioners approved the naming and recorded it in their official minutes. Lyon County minutes
A Trump-branded justice complex. One almost suspects the signwriter was being paid by the irony.
Verdict: Real.
2024 — President Donald J. Trump Avenue, Florida
In Hialeah, Florida, Palm Avenue was co-designated President Donald J. Trump Avenue in December 2024. The move was presented by Miami-Dade officials as a tribute to Trump’s leadership and political legacy. Miami-Dade coverage

2025 — The name goes federal
Trump’s second term brought the branding into Washington.
The administration rebranded the headquarters of the U.S. Institute of Peace as the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. The move was immediately controversial because the institute was created by Congress, and the legality of changing its name has been challenged. Washington Post report
Then came the Trump Gold Card, an immigration program announced by executive order in September 2025. White House executive order
The administration also introduced TrumpRx, a government drug-pricing initiative, while the military announced a new Trump-class battleship. The first planned ship is USS Defiant. U.S. Department of Defense announcement
And in December, Trump’s allies on the Kennedy Center board voted to add his name to the institution, creating the unwieldy Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. The legality of that change has since become the subject of a federal court fight. Reuters report
Verdict: Gold Card, TrumpRx and Trump-class — launched/announced. Institute of Peace and Kennedy Center — legally contested.
2026 — Trump Boulevard, Trump Highway and Trump Airport
The list got longer.
Southern Boulevard near Mar-a-Lago became President Donald J. Trump Boulevard. Florida subsequently designated a much longer stretch of State Road 80 as the President Donald J. Trump Highway. Tennessee also dedicated an I-40 bridge to Trump.
Then came the grand prize: Palm Beach International Airport became President Donald J. Trump International Airport in July. Its airport code subsequently changed from PBI to DJT. Airport’s official name-change information
Verdict: All real.
2026 — Don Colossus
Trump’s name isn’t confined to signs.
At Trump National Doral Miami, supporters unveiled “Don Colossus,” a giant gold-colored statue of Trump. The roughly 22-foot monument became one of the more surreal physical manifestations of the Trump cult of personality.
Verdict: Very real. And very gold.
September 2, 2026 — The Trump Dollar
And then, this week, the branding crossed a line no Trump Tower ever could.
The U.S. Mint released the 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin, bearing Trump’s portrait and commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
The coin is officially a dollar and is legal tender. It is also gold-colored, not gold: the Mint says its composition is 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel and the balance copper. Rolls of 25 are being sold for $61, while bags of 100 cost $154.50. U.S. Mint specifications

It is an extraordinary development. A sitting president’s face is now appearing on U.S. currency—a practice surrounded by longstanding legal restrictions and historical precedent debates. Associated Press report
And so the Trump naming project has reached its logical punchline:
Trump Drive. Trump Boulevard. Trump Heights. Trump Highway. Trump Justice Complex. Trump Institute of Peace. TrumpRx. Trump Gold Card. Trump-class battleships. Trump Airport. Don Colossus. And now… Trump dollars.
Some were proposed by politicians. Some were bestowed by foreign governments. Some may eventually be overturned. Some are essentially corporate branding.
But the trajectory is unmistakable.
What began as a real-estate developer’s insistence that his name should be visible on everything he built has evolved into something considerably larger: an attempt to place the Trump name—and increasingly Trump’s likeness—inside the physical and symbolic landscape of government itself.
The question now is not whether Trump has left his name on America but will he rename the USA Trumptopia.
