October 25, 2008 (LPAC)--Opposition to the prospect of another Bloomberg term is growing, after the City Council narrowly voted Thursday to allow Mayor Benito a third term (by 29-22 votes). A group of teachers filed a lawsuit saying that that a referendum is necessary, and two City Council members filed a State court challenge which charges that there is a conflict of interest by council members who stand to benefit from Bloomberg;#039;s third term. In addition the Department of Justice has to approve such a major change in the election law under the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
